The first thing to plan when deciding to bike the Northern California coast is to get a bike, unless you brought your own. If you haven’t there is a perfect shop in town that can help, Catch A Canoe & Bicycles, Too! located at the Stanford Inn. Their ideal location ensures that you will get the most bike for your buck. From there you can go on to many places all along the Northern California coast. Before you head out on your journey, be sure to pick up a map to help you figure out where you want to go. One thing to note about biking the Northern California coast is that most of it is gravel or dirt so it is best to get a mountain bike instead of a road bike.
Let’s move on to some of the great places along the Northern California coast that are great to explore. The first place is the Jackson State Demonstration Forest. This wonderful area is located in Fort Bragg and is the perfect place to see Northern California coast redwoods. There are 3 demonstration trails that visitors and locals love coming to to hike, bike, horseback ride and just walk and look at trees. There are so many different types of trees that can be found here, as well as beautiful flowers, that it is a delight to bike through. Another wonderful place to go biking around the Northern California coast is Mendocino Woodlands trails. There are 9 trails that can be found here all with different things to see and explore. Before heading out, be sure to check the trail map and know what kind of trail it is. Also while you are there be sure to check out their activities and see other ways to enjoy the park. The last place to check out is Mendocino Headlands State Park. You can find just about anything in this great place. They have not only great trails to bike or walk along but they have cliffs over looking the Northern California coast as well as beaches and the interesting Historic Ford House. The house is a wonderful place to go back in time and see how Mendocino’s history has changed over the years.
