Every year there are a few things that signal the start of a new season. In some areas it is the start of cooler temperatures, others the leaves begin to change colors. Here in Mendocino, it is the fair. Every year the Mendocino County Fair takes place and it is a great way for the community to get together and enjoy an afternoon full of fun. We at Sea Rock Inn love going to community events like the Mendocino County Fair. Come check out all of the fun that will be had at this year’s Mendocino County Fair.
About the Mendocino County Fair
The Mendocino County Fair will take place September 16th-18th at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville, CA. Tickets for the Mendocino County Fair are a steal and there are many options to choose from. Adults are $9, older children $7, younger children $6, and children 6 and younger are free. If you plan on riding a lot of rides, we suggest getting their $20 wristbands. There are so many fun events happening at this year’s Mendocino County Fair that it could be hard to choose. Here are some of the main events from each day that you should consider attending.
Friday Events
Starting Friday the 16th, the Mendocino County Fair will be open from 9 am to 10 pm. Start your tour of the fairgrounds with the Carolina Wool and Fiber Festival that starts at 10 am. See how your clothing goes from animal to fabric. After that, head over to the Super Science Exhibit which runs from 10 am to 6 pm behind the Home Arts Building. From there it would be a good idea to check out the rides and the food, as there is nothing like food from the Mendocino County Fair. Start your afternoon at the main grounds with Sadie the Balloon Lady. She can make just about anything! Next, check out the Fables of the West which starts at 2 pm. End your time with Andrea Pearson at the Lawn Stage.
Saturday Events
Saturday the 17th at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds run from 9 am to 10 pm again and there are still a lot more things to see and do on this day as well. Start your morning getting cozy with the beautiful Angora bunnies at 10 am in the Commercial Building. Then be sure to make your way down to the Friendly Farm Petting Zoo located behind the Home Arts Building. They will be there from 10 am to 6 pm. After lunch, see some quick haircuts at the Shearing and Skirting Demo. Finish this day at the Mendocino County Fair at 5 pm with Hypnotist Kelly Karl at the Lawn Stage.
Sunday Events
While Sunday the 18th may be the last day for the Mendocino County Fair, it doesn’t mean that it will fizzle away. They plan on going out with a bang. The gates open at 9 am and close at 10 pm on this day as well. There are many choices for the first of the day. You can start your day with a trip down memory lane with the Classic Car Show at 10 am at the Rodeo Parking Lot. Or see the Sheep Dog Trials. After that, you should grab a seat for the Parade that begins at noon and will run from Hwy 128 to the Rodeo Arena. After this, we suggest riding any rides you may have missed and get the last of the delicious Mendocino County Fair food that you may not be able to have anywhere else.
