The Mendocino County Museum is located in the heart of Mendocino County in Willits, CA. Their mission is to collect, conserve and celebrate the history that makes the Mendocino County. When you visit the Mendocino County Museum, you get to see a wide variety of artifacts, learn stories about the residents, and get an exclusive look into the past! Their exhaustive work had gathered a great number of these pieces of history and transformed into wonderful exhibits.
Tips: If you visit the museum on the first Wednesday of the month, your entrance is free!
The Mendocino County Museum offers a variety of exhibits each year. Here are some of the ones you can see:
- Woven Worlds: follow the story of Mendocino through time, from the first Pomo native people to nowadays population.
- Main Street: Then & Now: experience a time traveling journey without leaving Willits Main Street! The long gallery recreates this famous street through the centuries with history panels showing the different stages of its development: the indigenous people that populated the area, the ranching boom, and the influx of back-to-landers in the 60’s.
- The Seabiscuit Display: Relive this historical event through a well-made exhibition and informative video.
