Marvel at the Beauty of Point Arena Lighthouse
What Is Point Arena Lighthouse?
Point Arena Lighthouse is located about 30 miles south of Sea Rock Inn. Built in 1870, Point Arena Lighthouse is an iconic attraction of the American Northern Pacific and offers an interactive and visual experience like no other. Made of brick and mortar, it features an ornate staircase reminiscent of a romantic and mysterious era.
Tip: Drive along Highway 101 to get there. The trip is breathtaking and makes for perfect pictures!
What Should I Know Before Visiting Point Arena Lighthouse?
Point Arena Lighthouse is a must-see when you visit Mendocino. Go on a tour and climb the 115 feet tower and its 145 steps, and get access to a stunning 360-degree view! You can see for miles into the Pacific Ocean as well as the beaches and town that surround it.
Another wonderful way to enjoy the Point Arena Lighthouse is to see it by the light of the moon. Each month on the night of the full moon, Point Arena Lighthouse is open for viewing. Tickets for this event are $30 for one or $50 for a couple and are for groups of 8 to 12 people to admire and experience an amazing view.
Point Arena Lighthouse is also a great whale watching spot! When grey whales migrate from the warm waters of Mexico up to Alaska in the winter, you can spot several from the tip of the cliff!
Entrance Tips: You can visit Point Arena Lighthouse year-round from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. However, these hours might change around certain holidays (the lighthouse is closed for Christmas and Thanksgiving). Admission to the area varies between $5 to $7.50. Children between the ages of five and 12 can visit for $1.
