The Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands Are Spectacular

Point Arena-StornettaWhen most people think of visiting the California coast, one of the reasons why this area is chosen is the weather. Our weather is usually very consistent. This fact makes it easy for our locals and visitors love spending their free time outside. There are so many places to visit in and around Mendocino it sometimes takes our visitors several trips to see it all. One place we at Sea Rock Inn recommend to our guests is the Point Arena-Stornetta public lands. This is one of the most beautiful places around and is frequented by many visitors. Ready to make a trip there? Here is what you can expect to see and do while you are there.

The Point Arena-Stornetta public lands are around 2 miles of coastline that is a nature lovers dream. The Point Arena-Stornetta lands also include the estuary of the Garcia River as well as its beach. While you are there, there are many ways to occupy your time. One way is to walk along the coastline and enjoy the rocks as well as the ocean. If you are brave, head over to the small island but be careful, the trail disappears during high tide. While you are walking be sure to check out all of the natural habitats that you find along the way. The Garcia River is a haven for Coho and Chinook salmon. You will also find different types of birds, including raptors. One of the most loved animals that are found here are seals. Check out the “sea lion rocks” which is a place where you find dozens of sea lions sunning themselves.

No matter how you spend your time at Point Arena-Stornetta, just be sure that you are being safe. With the rocks and unpaved walk ways, be sure that you are dressed appropriately for walking in unstable conditions.

When you make your way north at Point Arena-Stornetta you will run into the Point Arena Lighthouse, which a fantastic place to visit. It is called the tallest Pacific Coast Lighthouse and is also another great place to see sea lions. The lighthouse juts out into the ocean and is surrounded by water on 3 sides which makes it a very peaceful and serene area. If you are feeling particularly spry, feel free to climb to the top. Be sure you bring a camera when you do because the view from the top is unlike anything else you will see. It has been a special spot for many couples throughout the years.
