Spring in Mendocino can be your ultimate getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Why is spring the best? The weather here ranges from an average of 60 degrees in March and April to 72 in May with low temperatures in the low-mid 40s. You also won’t find much rain in the spring months. With weather like that, you can explore the Redwoods at the state parks, enjoy a relaxing day on the beach, or go on a picnic at one of our favorite spots. Hands down, it’s one of the best times of year to visit Northern California!
Experience Spring in Mendocino
“We stayed at Sea Rock Inn in Mendocino last spring in one of the cottages. We were well pleased with the cleanliness, the ambiance, and the friendly attitude of the staff, but most of all, the wonderful views and the incredible breakfasts! Sitting out on our private deck in the morning and evening, watching the ocean, could not have been more relaxing. Highly recommend if you’re seeking a relaxing, peaceful stay.”

The Top 4 Spring Activities in Mendocino
1. Skunk Train
Mostly unchanged in over a century, the Skunk provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience through the redwoods of Northern California. You’ll traverse trestle bridges, tunnels, and the Noyo River canyon on an old-time train that’s been operating since 1855. If that’s not enough, you can also take two-person rail bikes out and always be on the lookout for extraordinary events, including Easter weekend rides with special celebrations and treats!
2. Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens
Boasting some of the best gardens of wild mushrooms, rhododendrons, and camellias, Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is a must-see! They offer member and non-member packages, and they’re pet-friendly. You can walk around the gardens and enjoy nature, take yoga classes in the gardens, or any one of the special events that are always going on if you check their calendar. It’s the perfect place for quiet and beauty.
3. Montgomery Woods
Embark on the serenity and peacefulness of Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve! During your visit, you can hike the two-mile trail through the coastal Redwoods. It is recommended that you can do a third of the rail or spend a half-day on the whole trail. The trail can be steep, so you can plan your hike accordingly. The entire trail also provides some great accessibility with bathrooms and other features. The reserve is open daily for day trips, so you can plan the perfect amount of silence and reflection you could need.
4. Bowling Ball Beach
One of nature’s little geological miracles, Schooner Gulch State Park hosts Bowling Ball Beach. The intrigue of this little slice of paradise is the geological formations, known as “concretions,” that come into view when the tide recedes, revealing stones along the shoreline. These stones have been formed over millennia from nearby mudstones. It’s an awesome place to relax and enjoy the wonder of mother nature.
