What To Do During Summer in Mendocino

During June, July, and August, average temperatures along the Mendocino Coast usually stay around 60 degrees. That means it never really gets cold, and it never really gets hot. The opportunities for fun-filled experiences are endless!

1. Head to Fort Bragg for the Day

Just north of Mendocino, you’ll find the charming town of Fort Bragg. This area is home to scenic shores with glass stone beaches, MacKerricher State Park, the Skunk Train, and more.

2. Go Hiking in Russian Gulch State Park

The Fern Canyon and Falls Loop Trail are moderately strenuous and offer views of a breathtaking waterfall, Redwoods, and lush forests and flowers.

3. Explore Mendocino Headlands State Park

If you want to see outstanding Pacific Ocean views, head to Mendocino Headlands State Park. You can walk along trails and spend the day on Big River Beach.

4. Enjoy Watersports on Big River

Hit the water with a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard and explore Big River. This waterway is about 8 miles long and is always relatively calm.

5. Visit the Point Cabrillo Light Station

The California coast is filled with many historic lighthouses and Point Cabrillo Light Station is located right here in Mendocino. You can do a self-guided tour and explore the First Assistant Lightkeeper’s Cottage, which is now a museum.

6. Go Wine Tasting

When you stay with us, we highly recommend you spend a day visiting local wineries in Anderson Valley. This area is known for its organic wine grapes, which make delicious variations of chardonnay and pinot noir.

7. Be Fascinated at the Mendocino Art Center

If you’re an art lover, we suggest you set aside some time to go to the Mendocino Art Center. It sits on a scenic bluff overlooking the ocean and exhibits stunning work from many local artists.

8. Go Shopping at the Mendocino Farmers Market

Everyone loves an opportunity to shop at a farmers’ market! The Mendocino Farmers’ Market is held on Friday afternoons from May to November and features lots of fresh produce, along with seasonal fruit, nuts, oils, cheeses, and other prepared foods.

Immerse yourself in nature and visit the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. Located between California’s Highway One and the Pacific Ocean, the garden includes canyons, wetlands, coastal bluffs, and more.
